If you scroll down or do a search, you will not only see a link to a video of Nilla in action, but you'll see pictures of Shep, and Shep with his new family. It's great to "meet" you, btw! Thank you for saving these wonderful dogs.

Heya,

Yes, I remember Shep *very* well. I'm the person that pulled Nilla from the Decatur Shelter, it's so great to see these pictures of her. She is an absolute dream of a dog and we loved her for the week that she was here...she was amazing with our dogs and was allowed free range of the house while we were at work every day with no problems. She only had a couple of "accidents" here with her housebreaking...and they were in the first day or two that she was here. Thank you so much for taking her in...I believe you also fostered another dog we pulled from the Decatur Shelter last year, Shep/Champ...he was a totally sweet boy too!!!!

Hi! Many of them are the kind of people that broader society writes off--working or lower middle class, 70% minority, single mothers, often on assistance. Many went to secondary schools that just warehoused them instead of teaching them to write, think, or learn, because nobody expected them to go to college anyway or to amount to much. They tried college and failed, or had to drop out because of family obligations. Often they enter Mercer speaking broad Georgia dialect, suspicious of school, wanting only to endure school one last time to get "that piece of paper" so they can make a better life. Some are sick of training the bright young things in their companies who go on to become patronizing managers, lawyers, supervisors, when *they* could do the work and have the knowledge but not the schooling or the language. And some of them discover that they have so much more within them. All of them are transformed in some fashion. It really, truly humbles me to be allowed to be one of the many agents for my students' evolution.

Thank you! These students are amazing. isPermaLink="false">http://fourtailslampwork.wordpress.com/?p=580#comment-119

Hear hear!! Artists and crafters are woefully underpaid for their work. One of the reasons I have never sold my crafts is that if I looked at it from hourly pay it would be depressing. But the truth is this problem extends to all kinds of work which on occasion is performed by amateurs who are in fact happy to do it for free. The problem of not being taken seriously also to all of us who work from home whether artists or not. People, even people who know in some detail about our deadlines and work crunches, think that it's fine to schedule a visit in the middle of the day -- from themselves or from a workman who expects us to stop whatever we are doing and show him (yes, it's usually him) the problem. Often this happens with little or no notice, too.For example, phone rings: "Is it OK if I stop by in 3 minutes to look at your gutters?" Well, no, it's not, I have a student expecting to do an exam review with me by phone in 5 minutes, but do I say so? Usually not. Should I learn not to answer the home phone during my work day? Probably! So I think some of the responsibility lies with those of us who work from home -- learning to set limits and make our constraints clear, even if this inconveniences others. If we are able to do so, then our time will be more valued, I would hope.Similarly, I applaud your admonishment for artists and crafters not to give away their work -- and if it IS given to us, for the recipient to value it as a true gift of love.

Hear hear!!
